The Grey Stones
Chapter 4
“Bilal I wished you could have companied us to Pakistan for attending your cousin’s wedding” said by Walid father of Bilal. Walid migrated to UK decades back though all his relatives lived in his village back home. He is going to his village with his wife for attending his nephew’s marriage. He continued “I know that you have got your final semester exams. You not only need to concentrate on your studies but also have to manage yourself in absence of us.” Bilal replied “I will manage myself. Do not worry about me but Dad are you sure that its’ a right time to go Jaranawala?” Walid laughed looking at his son’s anxious eyes and said in affable tone “I know that Jaranawala is near border of Afghanistan and there is a war going on there but things in Pakistan are normal. Do not worry. We will take care of ourselves.” Bilal hugged his father. They put luggage in boot of care and drove towards Heathrow airport.
Bilal said to his father while driving “bring some cool pictures of Jaranwala and my cousins.” Walid put his hand on Bilal’s shoulder and said “It’s been a while that you been to Jaranwala. I will send you to meet your family in the summer vacations. You should know your culture and heritage.” Bilal laughed and said “I will go to Lahore or Karachi rather than staying in that small town.” Walid replied “I agree with you that Jaranwala is not a happening town but the significance of that place lies in its beauty. The valley is surrounded by mighty Himalayas cover with snow. That is a paradise on earth. There is no buzz of commercial world around and it’s a perfect spot for escaping lucrative atmosphere of this artificial world.” Bilal looked in his father’s eyes figuring love for his home town and said “Yeah I will go there soon.”
Bilal hugged his parents and said good bye to them at airport.
The empty house looked weird to Bilal after returning back. It was just few hours that his parents have left but he has already started to miss them. He decided to talk with Juan. He called her and asked her for meeting. After half an hour there was a knock on his door. He opened the door. Juan was standing outside with a bottle of wine in her hand. She was looking gorgeous in her light blue jeans and black top. Bilal complemented her by saying “You look great.” Juan smiled. Bilal took her to his room. The room was well furnished. The most interesting thing that Juan found in room was a poster of a man with long hairs and a beard. It was written beneath his picture
“It is useless to curse Satan....as you have never self judged your own soul.”
Juan asked Bilal “Who is this man.” Bilal replied “Bullah Shah a sufi poet from subcontinent.” Juan said “I have heard about him from Abassi too. He sounds to be a legend,” Bilal looked at poster and said “Society banned him as he was considered to be corrupting their beliefs.” Juan said “Yeah this is problem of our society that it cannot tolerate a wisdom challenging their beliefs and perceptions.” Bilal nodded his head.
They opened bottle of wine and started drinking. Bilal said “I am really feeling lonely after departure of my parents.” Juan said “The feeling of solitude can be overcome by looking in something that could be striking, painful, isolated and fervent.” Bilal looked towards her to get grasp of her facial expressions. He said “What could be that.” She took her lighter out and made it to fire. She said “Keep looking in this flame and you will figure that the flame has infinite colours. As you keep on staring the colours will change with change in your emotional state. Initially it will look beautiful but then it will get intense communicating you the element of destruction and power in it.” Bilal interestingly listened to her and kept in looking in flame. Bilal said “I was trying to focus on your words but the intensity of flame drew me in it making me divert all my attentions towards it.” Juan smiled and said “Every thing made by nature has an element of infinite shades in it.” Bilal said “Yeah! any shade that can move our emotional state and involve us will result in intensity and passion.” Juan nodded her head. They both started to enjoy wine while staring at moon surrounded with stars.
